Map Conditions and Grading
All in-stock maps sold by Miklian Antiquarian Maps are generally in very presentable condition or better, suitable for framing. We note all flaws, folds, or other imperfections in the maps. Close-up photos of any flaws are available upon request. We use the following grading scale for our maps:
Clean and bright, with crisp lines. Paper condition strong, with wide, clean margins around the map. No restoration, or very minor restoration that was professionally done. Noted in listing if restored.
Very good condition.
Clean and bright, with crisp lines. On sound paper with no detracting imperfections in the image. Light age toning in image possible. Small tears or minor discoloration in the margins only. No restoration, or very minor restoration that was professionally done. Noted in listing if restored..
No significant imperfections. Minor spotting, foxing, short separations on centerfold with no image loss, or overall age toning may be present. May have trimmed margins, but paper is still sound.
Noticeable imperfections. Scattered foxing or spotting. Long separations on centerfold or tears entering image, but easily repaired.
Needs significant repair and cleaning. Paper may be highly acid and brittle.
Miklian Antiquarian Maps generally does not sell maps below 'Fair' condition, but may rarely offer an especially rare map in an inferior grade. If so, all damage will be extensively noted.
Maps listed on our web-site are measured in centimeters (height x width in cm) All measurements are approximate and within 1/2 cm. Measurements are taken from the engraved area of the map. Margins are not included in Map size.
