From Johnson’s New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World, 1863. A classic atlas from the mid-Civil War period from the United States, first edition 1860 (mainly Colton derived). The 1863 atlas in particular is unique for its amalgamation of earlier Browning and Colton engravings with newer maps holding a revised border design. The Johnson series of maps are known for their detail, rich hand-coloring, relation to the periods of Civil War and American Expansion in the West, and for their vividly American style of cartography.  Mapmaker A.J. Map size 61 cm x 43 cm, center fold as issued minor toning at edges and heavy toning in center fold.

Kurzgefafste Geographie, in fich haltmed einen aneinander hangenden entwurf aller Theile des bewohnten Erdbodens nebit compendieufen Land-Charten, welche einen kleinen Sack-Atlas. By Tobias Lobeck and Tobias Conrad Lotter, Augsburg, 1755 (this edition is likely 1762). Lotter worked for famous mapmaker Seutter, and after his death came out with many of his own atlases. Fine period pocket maps that were more accurate than many of their contemporary peers, although many errors remained.

Map size 12.5 cm x 10 cm.

Condition good to very good. Light toning at edges and in map, paper quality still strong.
