Map size 25.5 cm x 21 cm, center fold as issued.

Condition very good+. Light toning at edges and in center fold. Paper a strong white for the period.

Edme Mentelle (1730-1815) was an eminent French cartographer, and the geography teacher to the French explorer Baudin. Cape Mentelle in Western Australia is named after him. Although Mentelle did not have a large number of publications to his credit, he is credited with a considerable enhancement of knowledge in Australia, Southeast Asia, and North America specifically. Later works include collaborations with Conrad Malte-Brun. PF Tardieu is from the famous Tardieu cartography family, and served as engraver in this series.

From Geography for School, Upon a Plan Entirely New Atlas of Forty Luminous and Concise Maps. By Luke Drury, A. M. (USA). Publisher Miller and Hutchins, Providence, Rhode Island. Drury was a preeminent mapmaker of the early 19th century, and his state maps in particular were noted for their quality and accuracy before being largely overtaken by Finley. The 1822 edition in particular is difficult to obtain and desirable.

Map size 24 cm x 20 cm.

Condition good to fair. Spotting and toning throughout. Excellent candidate for restoration.
